On the first Saturday of February, the small village of Unadilla, NE, Ground Hog Capital of Nebraska, celebrates Grounds Hogs Day! A 2-block long parade, that starts at 2:00 p.m., is the highlight of the day featuring the Ground Hog King and Queen. There are also events going on all morning long at the Community Center, such as a Crafts Fair and Flea Market, bake sale and silent auction. A speaker from the Humanities Nebraska usually gives a presentation at 10:30 a.m., followed by lunch at the Unadilla United Methodist Church. The Veteran’s, quilt, history and museum of local history rooms are also open free of charge at the Community Center. This year, locally painted 12″ x 12″ barn quilts will be staked all throughout the park and put on buildings throughout Unadilla. See their website, www.unadillanebraska.com and their Facebook page for more information.
